Déjà Dream: Just Another (Pictorial) Dream Review — Part Fivefeatured
Three posts in one day = heavy sighs in anticipation of the work week that lays ahead. Oh well. We board two weeks from today! Woo hoo!
So Mom and Stephanie woke up at 6:30 am for reasons beyond me — I slept until 8:30 am and we were still at sea. Since we wouldn’t be docking in Cozumel for another couple hours, we went for a leisurely breakfast in the main dining room.
Smoked Salmon with Cream Cheese and Toasted Bagel
Eggs Benedict (before I took the ham off and replaced it with bacon)
We docked around 10:00 am, but took our time getting off the ship because our plans were…we had no plans. I wanted to go to Tulum. Stephanie and Mom wanted to bum around the port. They won.
Our first stop? Cafe Punta de Cielo. A nice little coffee shop on the pier that offers free wi-fi with a drink purchase, and their drinks are pretty good. Better than the free coffee we were getting on the ship, and cheap, too.
After checking in with work and checking in on the news back home, we walked around a bit and did most of our shopping at Los Cinco Soles (which usually has everything we want — touristy souvenir-type stuff to bring home for friends, vanilla and hot sauce to bring home for…me) before stopping over at Pancho’s Backyard for a light lunch.
Here’s the thing — Stephanie and I have eaten at Pancho’s before. Stephanie and I have drank our way across most of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean at this point. We’ve had meals, snacks, drinks, everything in many of the ports we’ve visited and ::knock on wood:: we’ve never gotten sick. We know what’s safe and what isn’t. Mom *never* eats OR drinks anywhere off the ship. So getting her to come with us for some drinks and lunch was a big step. And no one got sick. Progress. Anyways. Pancho’s is a bit expensive for the food (which is to be expected when you’re sticking within the port area), but the drink prices aren’t too bad. Their sangria, alone, is worth the visit. But the food is good, authentic takes on rather standard fare.
And then to top off the sangria…we went to Fat Tuesdays for some more drinks. Don’t judge.
We headed back to the ship after a quick shopping trip for some tequila in Dufrey (which they did not confiscate when I got back onto the ship) and headed up to the pools and hot tub for some swim time before everyone got back onboard.
After a few hours of swimming, we went back in for some iced tea and found out it was tiramisu cheesecake day. So this is a good time to insert my obligatory you-must-try-the-tiramisu-cheesecake comment. I’ll even tempt you further with a picture.
As we crept closer to back onboard time, the lido pools and hot tubs got crazy with kids splashing and hocking loogies into the water and some really inebriated adults so we headed down to the hot tubs on the lanai deck, which were a bit cooler but quiet. We stayed outside for a few more hours and then headed back to the room to shower and enjoy the rest of our Cozumel day from our balcony.
And by the time we woke up from our afternoon siesta, it was dinner time!
Chopped Handpicked Field Greens
Braised Style Short Ribs from Aged Premium American Beef
We had pulled out of port during dinner and by the time we were through dessert, we were cruising into a storm and the boat was really rocking.
Stephanie really enjoyed our newest friend.
We went to see some show (I don’t remember which one it was, but I have a note that it was a good, low-energy and stripped down kind of show and I liked it), but people kept trickling out (perhaps because of the motion) and I felt bad for the performer, who kept thanking people for coming to see his show.
By this point, the boat was really rocking. Not so bad that our cove balcony was locked but enough that we all retreated to the room. The motion makes me incredibly sleepy and Mom and Stephanie are prone to motion sickness, so we took it easy. We caught the tail end of Dancing With the Stars on TV and watched some Nancy Grace before going to bed early. Again. Whatever. We’re on vacation.
