One of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken…featured
We were in Antigua a few years ago. We went to visit Nelson’s Dockyard for a few hours and as we were leaving, I saw this man pick a coconut from a tree, he sat down, cracked it open and enjoyed it as he stared out onto the water. I’ve always been fascinated by how individuals interact with their environments. When I travel, I’m nearly as fascinated by watching people go about their everyday lives as I am by the places I’m visiting. And there was just something so simplistic and serene about him. Beautiful. I found myself wishing I had coconut trees and an ocean near me so I could try to find that same kind of peace. I don’t have tropical trees and vast bodies of tropical waters, but I do have sand and beaches. Why can’t I…why don’t I…wander out to the lake and sit and watch the water? Why don’t more people? So when I go to Miami in a week and a half…when I hop onto a cruise ship in two…that’s what I’m going to do. Find a quiet place and stare out onto the water.
And when the cold Chicago weather turns warm and stops tinging my cheeks pink and new!job gets too stressful, maybe that’s where you’ll find me- somewhere along Lake Michigan staring out at the water.
